Functional Abilities Evaluations
A Functional Capacity Evaluation assesses an employee’s physical ability to perform their work. The information can be used by the employer, the employee and the health care team to facilitate a safe and timely return to work. We utilize a portable ARCON evaluation system, which provides an objective musculosketal assessment. Therefore, these evaluations can also be completed at the work place. It is based on internally recognized principles and normative values used for comparison for the identification of functional abilities and limitations. The FAE/FCE is performed by a Certified Kinesiologist and evaluates the employee completing various activities that simulate the physical demands at work, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, etc. The FAE/FCE can be conducted over one or two half days. To maximize the results for job matching purposes the FAE/FCE is customized to each employee’s job demands by utilizing the information from a Physical Demands Analysis. The information from this examination can be utilized by health care providers to plan a timely return to work, resulting in cost savings due to minimization of loss time and health care costs.
Work Hardening
The Work Hardening is for any employee that has been off from work for four weeks or more. Each Work Hardening Program is customized to the employee, based on a physical, functional, and psychological assessment taking into consideration the job that the employee is to return to. The Work Hardening Team includes a physiotherapist or chiropractor, an occupational therapist or case manager, a behavioral counselor or psychologist, and a physician. As a result, the Program addresses the employee’s mental and physical limitations, and is characterized by the following components work simulation, progressive physical reconditioning, and functional strengthening using job specific activities and tasks
Our Work Hardening Program runs five days a week, for four to eight weeks, and based on a minimum four to five hours/day to simulate a realistic work week.
Return to Work Program
The goal of our Return To Work Coordination and Programs is to return an injured employee to work quickly and safely. We are able to develop a return to work program that suits the needs of each individual employee at a particular work place. The development of each specific program may include a Physical Demands Analysis to identify the essential demands of the job, as well as the potential for job modifications to accommodate physical restrictions, development of a return to work plan, as well as processes for monitoring and progressing the return to work program. Our Programs include customized written and/or verbal communication with the employee and employer. These programs are interdisciplinary in nature and include case management.
Pre/Post Offer Screening
We perform these assessments to assist you with the hiring process by performing job-specific physicals, to determine the applicant’s ability to perform the essential functions of a particular job. We can customize these assessments to the particular physical demands of the job.
Ergonomic & Workplace Evaluations
We are able to identify and control ergonomic risk factors that result in work place injuries. We are able to identify sub-optimal ergonomic design and provide you with recommendations to reduce the incidence and severity of work related injuries.
Job Coaching
Job Coaching involves having a Certified Kinesiologist, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist working at the work site with an employee to reduce the risk of injury or re-injury. Job coaching ensures that the employee is utilizing ergonomically sound body mechanics, which reduce the risk of injury, but that allow the employee to maintain the required level of productivity, Job Coaching can also be utilized as a tool to provide reassurance to an employee that has returned to work following an extended absence.
